Okay.

Here's my 2 cents worth.

I am in the "disappointed" camp.

I've heard theories about the restaurant patrons in the final scene being characters from the past who might bear a grudge against Tony and they may have killed him. Here's my issue....we have absolutely NO IDEA that's what happened. If that was how it ended, why not show that? Why not make that clear to the audience? It would've been one of the best moments ever on TV. People shouldn't have to watch the episode multiple times and conduct research on IMDB to understand how the show ended. If that's what is needed to understand it, then it failed.

More than anything else, this research being conducted and the various theories prove my point....which is people need to know what happened to Tony Soprano. It really doesn't matter what happened, just something concrete. But, when the screen went abruptly black in the middle of a song lyric, everyone was left with nothing but questions. My belief is that a lengthy successful series with millions of loyal viewers shouldn't end FOREVER with the biggest question of all, "What happened to the main character?" - arguably, the most complex and entertaining character in television history. The viewers need to know.

The way this ended left it completely up in the air. Some argue that, "Hey, if Meadow had sat down and they had a nice dinner and left together as a happy family, you don't know that someone wouldn't have killed Tony the next day." True. But at least we know they left the restaurant. And the message would've been clearer. As it stands now, we don't know ANYTHING. The sudden black screen leaves every possibility open. He might be dead? They all might be dead? He might be alive but living in constant fear and paranoia? He might go to trial because Carlo is talking to the Feds? He might live happily ever after with no problems at all? .............Might. Might. Might. Who wants a story to end that way?

It's the equivalent of reading a murder mystery, spending hours reading chapter after chapter and being introduced to multiple suspects in the murder, and then getting to the final chapter where the killer is revealed and having the author end the book without telling you. To quote Bob Ryan from Entourage, "Would that be something you'd be interested in?" I think not. I think you'd be disappointed at the very least, if not outright angry.

I appreciate David Chase's creativity and ability to do things "outside the box". I've enjoyed the abstract dream sequences and the storylines that never come to resolution (i.e. the Russian escaping in the Pine Barrens; Christopher's Muslim friends; etc.), but my argument is that for the SERIES FINALE, the end of the story,....this was not the place to employ that technique.

Nonetheless, the series was still one of my favorite shows ever and I thoroughly enjoyed almost every episode. Shocking, funny, gripping. GREAT!!! I just felt let down at the end. There was no sense of closure.

In conclusion, and the main point I am trying to make is that, the most important moment in the history of the show was when Tony said to Ca

How could David Chase use us like that, there's no closure in that ending? I wasted 8 years of my life hoping it would all come together in the end. Never again will I be fooled.

Why would David Chase not want to entertain, want to take the easy way out, want to pull a fast one, want to F with his viewers?

He wouldn't. He is an artist. And this ending is what he saw fit. You cant tell him what to do with his art nor what is best. Best for you is not best for him, nor best for the next guy.

You loved David Chase 'til the end. But in the end, you're not his friend anymore?

Fans of his show who hated what he did with it aren't big fans anymore. People who hated the show are glad that it's over and ended the way it did.

Kind of like Tony's life isn't it. Never knowing if it's going to come from his friends or enemies. Never knowing which move would piss the wrong person off.

But like Tony...David Chase doesnt give a sh*t. It's his ending the way he saw it best.

To the black kid from Texas above, JOHNNY DRAMA: Does an ending need to be handed to you? Are you that lazy that you can't bear an ending that makes you think about it a bit. Just content to wath the spelled out ending eating your doritos and purple soda? I'm sure you are not. But why in this case do you need it to be?

To end this show in a spelled out manner would disappoint someone no matter what. Kill him, people would wonder what happens next. Happy dinner with the family....too bland and cheezy, and still, what happens later?

The message to me is this. Make of it what you want. Make it the best ending you could think of. Want to dig for info for a week or so to try to figure it out??...then you have just been entertained by the Sopranos for a week longer than everyone else.

Tony's life was not the best. He killed and stole and used people throughout his life. If he was killed he got what was coming to him. If he lived thru a happy meal, then thru his life, he slipped by another mess or two, better for him I guess.

As far as closure...what would have been closed? If Tony lived or died...you would never know what happenes to everyone else. Nor whay happened to the loose ends from past stories.

In my mind Tony is dead. I didnt need to see the bullet hit him. I didnt need to see who killed him. (Alot of people wanted to). I didnt need to see the blood. I didnt need to see the look of horror on his familys faces. I didnt need to see if they were killed as well.

He is dead and it was a brilliant way to depict that.

There will never be another show as great as the Sopranos. There will never be a followup show or movie.

Knowing that...choose death or life or something in between. It will make you feel better.

Personally, exciting my imagination was one of the highlights of the ending. Since it wasnt handed to me, I needed to come to the best resolution of the story myself. Never has any show done that before.

Wasted the last 8 years of my life???? No. That ending made my Sopranos viewing time for the past 8 years alllll worth it!

The fact that it went to silence was great as well. I always looked forward to the last song of the show that ran during the credits. Most times they were always appropriate and great songs for the moment.

Silence was more than appropriate here. Bravo!

The Sopranos finale was a complete and utter insult to the fans who have loyally put up with long months of hiatus year after year with the anticipation of an ending as excellent as the show. The show deserved an excellent ending, it needed to end whether good, bad, bloody, or funny. All your doing is speculating, whatever you think happened did not happen because it did not end. All shows deserve an ending. This was not an end, it was a lack of respect to the show, the actors and most especially the fans.

At the end I sat stumpted. . . . For a second I thought the cable was out or I sat on the remote, but that was not the case. The ending came as a sudden rush of my heart beating and nervousness and then the screen went black for ten seconds....thinking WTF just happened? But the ending made the most sense.

All I'm saying is I wanted some type of closure. Most people don't like to be left hanging and I'm one of those people, it's my preference.

Nah man..You dont DESERVE anything, yo. It's a show that you watch on the box...nuttin more. You were either down wit it or out in the cold. But to say that it was made for YOUR specific preference, man that shit ain;t straight!

That was a no win situation for him. No matter how it ended, bunch of Sopranos wanna bees woulda still thought it sucked!

So take some time to chill out and look see what my homeboy David Chase really made for ya'll...

...a brave and innovative ending to one of the best true-life dramas on television to date. For Real!

Yo! My boy hooked me up with this link and I'm glad to talk about the show with people from my area. When Daid Chase started this show it was only suppossed to last 3 season's. But no one thought it would become the best show of all time. He had so much pressure from HBO and that's why there was so much space between season's, plus when the actor's first signed their contracts it didn't even include residuals so as the show progressed new contracts had to be done. David Chase said he has no interset in explaining, defending, reinterpreting, or adding to what is there and he's right. No other show has been talked about so much days after it has ended. The man's a genius! I say F it, lets talk a rode trip to A.C. and hang out with the cast. Later. (RA)

It was all a dream, if you look at the episode before the final when Tony goes to sleep at the end and when he wakes up in the beginning of the final, there are too many inconsistencies: 1.) Tony falls asleep holding the gun and when he wakes up the gun is standing on the side of his bed. 2.) When Tony falls asleep he is wearing a jacket and when he wakes up he's not wearing one. 3.) When he falls asleep there is no bed sheet on his bed and when he wakes up there is a bed sheet. 4.) I believe the shirt he wakes up with is not the one he fell asleep with. Also I think there is a lamp on the drawer that was not there the night before. Check it out! This all leads me to believe that the whole last episode was a dream. Disappointing I know but too many coincedence's for it not too be a dream.

Never Ending Soprano said...

Ok, I'll finally comment. There's been many theories out there on what the conclusion was with Tony. There has also been a lot of clues from the last 5 minutes that may have summed up the entire series...

The one clue that no one has mentioned that I think may be the biggest one is the juke box. The first song that he looks at was "Who will you run to" and "Magic Man" (by heart) then he looks at the two songs "Don't stop believing" and "Any way you want it" (by journey). But before he chooses his song he looks at the songs "i've gotta be me" and "A lonely place" (by Tony Bennett). Well thats six songs...Yes, I think each represents a season. I haven't decided which song for what season, I bet thats what it is. Also if you look at all the songs on the machine there's no number/letters indicating how to make your selection. So, how did he know what number was "Don't..."? He pressed two numbers, what were they? I think 0 was the first one?

And finally, I think Tony is dead because when AJ emphasized "always remember the good times" its because when tony is gone they will always remember the good times! And so will I...

Brilliant, I applaud the ending!

When the FBI guy said "We may win this thing"..was he talking about The NJ Family may win? Of did he mean the FBI may win...which leads me to believe that Phils death may have been an FBI setup.

Just listen to the lyrics of the song."don't stop believing" Tony doesn't get whacked. "Oh the movie never ends, it goes on and on and on" i wont stop believing... Armando Soprano
